Did You Know? Parking Safety Tips During the Holidays

December 06, 2018

During the holidays, parking and safety go hand-in-hand

With the goal of reducing the number of parking violations, EasyPark has developed the “Did You Know?” educational campaign. During the month of December, EasyPark’s “Did You Know” will cover safety and awareness while parking during the holidays.

Unfortunately during the holidays, vehicle break-ins are at its highest due to the large volume of holiday shopping. Here are some safety reminders while parking during the holidays:

  • Remember where you parked. Make a mental or written note of where you parked your car to avoid wandering around looking for it later. You could even take a picture with your phone of what you see straight ahead as you walk away from your car.
  • Approach your car with keys in hand. Have your keys ready when approaching your vehicle, and check the back seat and the area around and under the car before you get in.
  • Use the trunk. Put packages in the trunk rather than in the back seat. Out of sight is your piece of mind.
  • Keep all car doors locked and windows closed while in or out of your car. Set your alarm or use an anti-theft device.
  • “Safety First” is our #1 goal. If you see something suspicious in downtown Anchorage or if you need an escort to your vehicle, call or text 297-4471.
  • Park in a well-lighted area, if you shop at night.
  • Never leave your car running while unoccupied or with children inside.
  • Locate your keys prior to going to your car.
  • Keep a secure hold on your purse, handbag and parcels. Do not put them down or on top of the car in order to open the door.
  • Be aware of your surroundings, when approaching or leaving your vehicle. Do not approach your car alone if there are suspicious people in the area.

”While parking with EasyPark, take advantage of our Amenities Program” Parking Director, Brian Borguno said. “The escort/pick up service is well used during the holidays, especially for those that are carrying a large amount of packages or don’t feel quite safe walking at night.”
