IDA Recognizes Best Practices in Urban Place Management

ACDA is recognized at International Downtown Association conference for "The Rooftop"

During its 64th Annual Conference and Tradeshow in San Antonio, Texas, the International Downtown Association recognized Anchorage Community Development Authority (ACDA) with a Certificate of Merit Award for “Activating Underutilized Parking Spaces for Public Use.” The project, “The Rooftop” at 5th & B parking garage, was awarded a Certificate of Merit in the category of Public Space. This category features capital improvements that have enhanced the urban design, transportation methods, physical function, or economic viability of downtown and the community.

ACDA’s project received the IDA Certificate of Merit for successfully employing best practice in urban place management,” said David Downey, IDA President and CEO. “Activating Underutilized Parking Spaces for Public Use” is a shining example of downtown management delivering real value to the city.”

ACDA reinvented the usage of its parking resources in downtown Anchorage and created a new community asset for all to enjoy. The Rooftop features a half-court basketball court, ping pong and chess tables, year round skating rink, and benches/tables to enjoy a lunch break or take in the beautiful mountain scenery.
