Did You Know? Alley Parking is Loading/Unloading for Businesses

August 03, 2018

Alleyways in downtown Anchorage allow easy access for business’ freights or materials.

With the goal of reducing the number of parking violations, EasyPark has developed the “Did You Know?” educational campaign. The topics for this educational series stem from research into the most common causes for parking citations. During the month of August, EasyPark’s “Did You Know” will cover alley parking in downtown Anchorage.

Alleys were laid out by the Army Corps of Engineers in the early 1900’s in downtown Anchorage. As Anchorage developed, parking rules were put in place to allow for businesses to load/unload their freights or materials. Specifically, no parking is allowed in alleys with the exception for active loading or unloading.

For those businesses that do need use of the alleys, it is important to leave 10 feet width for free movement of vehicle traffic.

“Enforcement of alley parking is critical as emergency vehicles need access as well as the downtown businesses,” Parking Director, Brian Borguno said.
